Report: Jets QB Geno Smith to miss pre-season game vs. Buccaneers

The New York Jets will have to wait at least a week to see what their starting quarterback might have in store for them this season.

Geno Smith is being kept out of the Jets' first pre-season game of the new season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Friday, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported .

According to Garafolo, Smith is being kept out with "foot soreness," adding that "it’s nothing the team is concerned about and if this was a regular-season game, he’d be a go. But for now, a cautionary route for the team."

Rookie quarterback Cade Klubnik, who was selected by New York in the fourth round of this year's draft, will get the start in Smith's stead on Friday.

Smith was traded to the Jets in the off-season, reuniting him with the team that first drafted him in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
