Canada stuns South Korea at Little League World Series: ‘Extreme underdogs’

Canada has pulled off another upset at the Little League World Series.

The Canadians stunned the favoured South Korea with a 5-1 win on Tuesday in an elimination game.

Canada, represented by Vancouver's Little Mountain, got off to a hot start with four runs in the top of the first inning.

With a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth, Canadian pitcher Kian Sandhu was able to escape a bases-loaded jam to preserve the lead. Sandhu then had to escape another bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth with the tying run at the plate.

The win Tuesday was a little bit of revenge for the Canadians, as they fell 7-0 to South Korea in the tournament opener.

Canada will move on to face Japan on Wednesday with a spot in the quarterfinals on the line. It's the first time a Canadian team has advanced this far at the Little League World Series since 2017.

Tuesday marked the second straight upset for the Canadians, as they also won a thriller over Panama in extras on Monday despite being no-hit through regulation.

Now 3-1, it's the first time since 1998 that Canada has won three games at the annual tournament in Williamsport, Pa.
