Niagara police renew call for help solving case of 8 horses stabbed last year

Police in the Niagara Region are renewing their calls for the public’s help as they continue to investigate an animal cruelty incident involving multiple horses one year ago.

It was July 31, 2025, when Niagara Regional Police Service launched an investigation after farm staff in Welland, Ont., discovered eight of the animals had suffered injuries “consistent with cuts or stab wounds” during a routine morning check. It’s believed the incident took place some time between July 30 and July 31.

The incident occurred at a horse boarding farm located near Buchner Road and Highway 140.

Six of the horses received treatment on-site, but one was taken to an out-of-town veterinary hospital for emergency care. One horse was also found dead on the scene.

Niagara police called the incident a “disturbing act of animal cruelty.”

A year later, police issued a renewed request on Monday for the public’s help in providing information that could help push the investigation forward.

Anyone with information is urged to call police at 905-688-4111, option three, then dial extension 1009487.

Anonymous tips can also be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online.
