Flames to wear patch to commemorate final season at Saddledome in 2026-27

The Calgary Flames are celebrating their one last ride at the Saddledome.

The Flames are set to wear patches on their jerseys for 2026-27 to commemorate the final season at their longtime arena, according to Sportsnet's Eric Francis.

The shoulder patch features the years 1983 and 2027 to mark the span of time the organization spent playing at the Saddledome.

It also includes its nickname, 'the Dome,' and reads "farewell season" underneath.

According to the Flames, the patch's shape is intended to resemble the banners hanging from the rafters.

Meanwhile, its upper border is meant to mimic the Saddledome's iconic roofline.

Calgary's new arena, Scotia Place, is scheduled to open in the fall of 2027 ahead of the 2027-28 NHL season.

“The new arena’s twice as large in square footage (as the Saddledome)," said NHL commissioner Gary Bettman earlier this year.

"It has more bathrooms. It has more amenities. It’s just going to be incredible. This building has been well thought out and as a result, it’s going to work very well for its intended purposes.”

Scotia Place will play host to six round-robin games and one elimination game for the World Cup of Hockey in February 2028.
