Bagpiper injured in 'unprovoked' altercation in downtown Ottawa
Ottawa police arrested one person following an altercation that left a bagpiper injured in downtown Ottawa on Saturday afternoon.
Ottawa Police Service Patrol Sgt. Jason Riopel said the musician had minor injuries that were not life-threatening.
The Ottawa Citizen witnessed the bagpipe player with what appeared to be an injured left hand.
“It seems like (the altercation) was unprovoked,” Riopel said. “But we’re still trying to determine what the motive was.”
Police responded to the scene on Wellington Street , near the Fairmont Château Laurier hotel and the National War Memorial, following a 9-1-1 call at around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Riopel said that there was “zero concern or risk right now for any public safety” and that police were continuing the investigation.
