Felix Auger-Aliassime, Alexandra Eala lose in mixed doubles at US Open

Felix Auger-Aliassime can flip his focus to preparing for the singles draw at the US Open.

The Canadian and Filipino partner Alexandra Eala lost 4-1, 4-1 to the husband-and-wife team of Gael Monfils of France and Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in the first round of the tournament's mixed-doubles event.

Auger-Aliassime captured a bronze medal with Gabriela Dabrowski at the 2024 Olympics, but couldn't find the same success with Eala, who has surged up the women's singles rankings after winning a tournament in Washington earlier this summer.

Auger-Aliassime is ranked fourth in men's singles, and reached the semifinals at the US Open last year. The singles main draw starts Sunday.

Canada's Leylah Fernandez also was scheduled to play in mixed doubles, but her partner, American Frances Tiafoe, was forced to drop out because of injury.

Canada's Liam Draxl and Katherine Sebov are scheduled to play first-round qualifying matches later Tuesday.
