Vancouver Sun ·

A six-year-old boy has died after being hit by an SUV while walking in a townhouse parking lot in Abbotsford.

At about 12:45 p.m. Thursday, officers were called to the residential complex in the 32000-block of Simon Avenue.

Witnesses and first responders rushed to help but the child died at the scene.

The investigation has just started with support from crash and reconstruction analysts and the Abbotsford police victim services unit.

Vehicle traffic has been closed off to the townhouse complex as officers gather evidence.

“The Abbotsford Police Department extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of the child involved in this tragic incident,” said Sgt. Paul Walker in a statement on Thursday afternoon.
