Panthers’ Brad Marchand out week-to-week with leg injury

Brad Marchand will miss some time with his injury but should return this season.

The veteran Florida Panthers forward is considered week-to-week with a leg injury, sources tell Sportsnet.

Marchand was injured on Tuesday night in Los Angeles when his left leg buckled under him late in the second period while making a play near the Kings' net.

Marchand was in serious pain and stayed down on the ice for several minutes before being helped off the ice by teammates Brady Tkachuk and Niko Mikkola. He did not put any weight on his leg as he left the ice and didn't return to the game.

The injury came in Marchand's second game of the season after he returned from off-season surgery. It also came only days after captain Aleksander Barkov went down with his own leg injury, which will keep him out of the lineup for at least six to eight weeks.

“I mean, we have a little experience with Sasha going down, so it wasn’t quite as shocking the second time it happened,” head coach Paul Maurice said after the Kings game. "We know we have good depth. And there’s a threshold for any team, a number of injuries you just can’t survive, and we passed that early last year. So, real good resolve here. The tank is deep right now. We had a big summer off, so we’re strong.”
