World No. 1 Jannik Sinner withdraws from US Open
The last Grand Slam on the calendar will take place without the men's top player.
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner withdrew from the men's singles draw of the US Open, the tournament announced Friday.
"We have been back on court in Monte Carlo over the last couple of days and have realised that I still need more time to recover from my right knee issue," Sinner wrote. "I’m obviously very sad and disappointed, as New York has a special place in my heart. I was very much looking forward to coming back and playing in the electric atmosphere in front of the great fans there.
The 25-year-old has been managing a knee injury he suffered during his run to the Wimbledon title in July.
Sinner has not competed since Wimbledon, withdrawing from the National Bank Open presented by Rogers and the Cincinnati Open this month.
The Italian won the hardcourt tournament in 2024 and was a finalist in 2025, but was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner has not missed a Grand Slam event since 2020, when Wimbledon was not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
