Canadiens’ Juraj Slafkovsky named Slovakian hockey player of the year
Montreal Canadiens forward Juraj Slafkovský has once again been crowned the 2026 Slovak Hockey Player of the Year.
It is the third consecutive year and fourth time overall that Slafkovsky has been named the top player.
The 22-year-old winger was also awarded the prestigious Jozef Golonka Award as the nation's best forward following a breakout 2025–26 campaign for both club and country.
Slafkovský enjoyed a breakout 2025–26 regular season with career highs with 30 goals and 73 points 82 regular season games. He also had six goals and 12 points in 19 playoff games, helping the Canadiens reach the Eastern Conference Final.
The forward also represented Slovakia at the Olympics for the second straight time, scoring four goals and four assists over six games. Slafkovský led Slovakia in points as they finished fourth in the tournament after losing in the bronze medal game to Finland.
Since being selected first overall by the Canadiens in the 2022 NHL Draft, Slafkovský has scored 72 goals and added 112 assists over 282 career games.
