Bad year for B.C. drownings continues with Vancouver Island death

Vancouver Sun ·

A 27-year-old man has drowned in Goldstream Provincial Park on southern Vancouver Island.

This brings the continuing tally for 2026 to at least 40 people who have drowned in B.C., around 50 per cent higher than the same time last year.

West Shore RCMP Cpl. Nancy Saggar said the man had been swimming by the Goldstream Falls waterfall near the the 3400-block of the Trans-Canada Highway when he went underwater and did not resurface.

“Bystanders pulled the man from the water and immediately began life-saving measures until police, B.C. Emergency Health Services and Langford Fire Department arrived,” she said.
