Man arrested after shooting in N.W.T. prompts shelter-in-place order
A suspect involved in a shooting in a Northwest Territories community has been arrested after a shelter-in-place order was issued for several hours Saturday.
RCMP say they responded to a report of a shooting outside a local business in Fort Smith, N.W.T., at approximately 2:12 a.m. Aug. 22. The shooting is reported to have taken place on McDougal Road and left three people injured.
The male suspect fled the scene, prompting a shelter-in-place order to be issued shortly after. It was lifted Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 4:30 a.m. Sunday, police said the suspect was arrested without incident.
Anyone who was present during the altercation that occurred prior to the shooting is asked to visit the Fort Smith RCMP detachment between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Monday to speak with an investigator. People who have already spoken with investigators are asked to still come in to provide a statement.
