Blue Jays’ Spencer Arrighetti makes progress in rehab outing with Bisons

One of the Toronto Blue Jays ' trade-deadline acquisitions started getting back on track Sunday.

Spencer Arrighetti pitched 3.2 innings in a rehab outing with the triple-A Buffalo Bisons, allowing two runs on three hits, while striking out three and walking two.

Arrighetti was diagnosed with Morton's neuroma, a condition related to a damaged or enlarged nerve that causes pain in the bottom of the foot, manager John Schneider told reporters on Monday.

The right-hander exited his last rehab start on Aug. 6 after throwing 39 pitches over 2.1 hitless innings due to nerve irritation, which was later revealed to stem from the condition.

“As far as timeline, we'll see. We're hoping he can pitch through it and feel better with treatment, but it's kind of a new one for me,” Schneider added.

The 26-year-old retired the first 10 batters he faced on Sunday before giving up a single to Trevor Story — also on a rehab assignment — and a two-run homer to Mikey Romero. He threw 35 of 50 pitches for strikes, induced three whiffs and averaged 90.5 m.p.h. with his fastball, 1.9 m.p.h. below his season average.

Arrighetti has not yet pitched for the Blue Jays since being acquired from the Houston Astros for Daulton Varsho. He has a 4.60 ERA, striking out 87 batters and walking 50 over 88 major-league innings this year.

Since entering the majors in 2024, he has a 4.66 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 53 career games (52 starts).
