Skinner nearly posts shutout in Jets pre-season debut

The new Winnipeg Jets goalie came within five minutes of a shutout as the Jets beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 at home on Monday.

Skinner made 31 saves while playing the whole game for the Jets, as fans serendaded him with "Stuuuu" chants throughout the game.

“The love from the fans, especially at the beginning before the anthems, that felt fantastic," Skinner said after the game, according to Mike McIntyre of The Winnipeg News . "You can tell how much the fans love their hockey, how much they love their players."

Gabriel Vilardi, Cole Perfetti and Dylan DeMelo scored for the Jets in the win. Georgii Merkulov broke Skinner's shutout with a goal with just over five minutes to play in the third period.

With the win, the Jets improved to 1-1-0 in the pre-season with games against the Oilers on Tuesday and against the Avalanche on Friday to come.
