Alex Apodaca stages historic upset over Bella Mir at DWCS
Alex Apodaca shocked just about everyone at Dana White's Contender Series on Tuesday night.
The 32-year-old fighter was the -6000 favourite to beat her opponent, Bella Mir — daughter of former heavyweight champion Frank Mir — in a highly anticipated bout that boasted the most lopsided odds in the history of DWCS.
No matter for Apodaca, though, as she cruised to a victory via unanimous decision over one of the UFC's top prospects.
Mir, for her part, was handed the first loss of her MMA career, bringing her record to 4-1.
"I didn't want to look at the odds before; I knew they were some (expletive)," Apodaca said in her post-fight interview with Laura Sanko . "I just truly believe if I stay present and in the moment that I can see everything, and nobody is going to be beat me."
Apodaco was one of five from Tuesday's contender series to earn a UFC contract.
