High-risk sex offender facing new charges in Langley after being released again

A man deemed a high-risk sex offender is facing new charges in Langley.

Michael Wayne Carpenter was charged with trespassing after a person spotted a stranger in their backyard in the Willoughby area on the night of Aug. 12.

Carpenter was released, and five days later he was arrested again after a person reported a stranger in their apartment suite on 64th Avenue.

Carpenter is currently on a long-term supervision order for sexual assault with a weapon, forcible confinement and uttering threats.

He has been charged with break and enter and obstruction of a peace officer.

He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing on his most recent charges.

“Residents should never have to fear for their safety inside their own homes,” Supt. Harm Dosange, officer in charge of the Langley RCMP, said.

“These incidents are particularly alarming. Through the rapid response of our officers and the invaluable support of the Integrated Police Dog Services team, a suspect was quickly located and taken into custody.”

Langley RCMP encourages anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the areas of these incidents, or who may have information relevant to these investigations, to contact the Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
