“Kevin Quinn: Hold Dexterra Accountable”: SEIU Local 2 holds rally outside TransLink office

Financial Post ·

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sept. 02, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — SkyTrain cleaners employed by Dexterra Group have been sounding the alarm about serious safety concerns about their jobs over the last several months. TransLink has refused to meet the workers despite repeated requests. Now, WorkSafeBC inspections have backed up workers’ concerns, with reports outlining several health and safety violations that are still outstanding .

The janitorial workers on the TransLink SkyTrain system, who are members of SEIU Local 2, are facing ongoing mistreatment, unsafe working conditions, and unjustified layoffs (25 workers to date). Workers say they have repeatedly lacked the necessary supplies to ensure public safety, like being instructed to clean washrooms without cleaning products and using water alone. The janitors are concerned about their health as well as those of TransLink riders.

A retendering process by TransLink resulted in the cleaning services being taken over by Dexterra Group on February 1, 2026. After months of workplace violations and safety concerns, SEIU Local 2 is calling on TransLink to end their contract with Dexterra.

A welcome email is on its way. If you don't see it, please check your junk folder.
