Iga Swiatek beats Elina Svitolina in National Bank Open women’s semifinal

The No. 7 seed beat No. 9 seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in a National Bank Open presented by Rogers women's semifinal on Wednesday in Toronto.

Swiatek, from Poland, will face the winner of the late semifinal between No. 2 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan and No. 4 Coco Gauff of the U.S.

Swiatek, a six-time Grand Slam champ, was in the midst of a down year before her Toronto surge.

She was ousted in the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, the fourth round at the French Open and the third round at Wimbledon.
