Panthers’ Brad Marchand confirms recent surgery

A key member of the Florida Panthers is on the mend after recent surgery.

Brad Marchand confirmed on social media that he recently underwent a procedure that will keep him off the ice for the time being.

Marchand was supposed to play in former teammate Zdeno Chara’s charity game in Slovakia on Friday, but confirmed he would be unable to participate.

“I just wanted to send you a note and first off apologize, I won’t be able to make Z’s game," Marchand said in the video. "Unfortunately, I had to have a surgery. I was trying to fix (the injury) without surgery, but unfortunately that wasn’t able to happen and had to kind of do it last minute, and with the time and the recovery I’m going to need, I’m not going to be able to make it and play in the game, unfortunately."

While the timeline for his recovery is unknown, Marchand said in the video that he hopes to "get back on the ice soon."

Marchand dealt with a lower-body injury for most of the 2025-26 season, and with the Panthers out of the playoff picture, he was shut down for the final 19 games of the regular season.

Even while dealing with the injury, the 38-year-old forward still put up 27 goals and 27 assists in 52 games. Marchand joined the Panthers ahead of the 2024-25 trade deadline and helped the team win a second straight Stanley Cup title.

The Panthers missed the playoffs last season, but made a big splash this summer by acquiring Brady Tkachuk to join his brother Matthew as they look for a bounce-back year.
