Investigation of assault in Gatineau circulated on social media leads to Ottawa man's arrest
A 28-year-old Ottawa man was expected to appear in court in Gatineau by video conference on Wednesday to face a charge of assault causing bodily harm in connection with an incident that had been circulated on social media in early August.
Abdul Rahman Al Hallak was arrested by the Sûreté du Québec in the Montreal area on Aug. 25 and remained in custody at a detention centre in Valleyfield, a Gatineau Police Service news release said.
On Aug. 8, shortly before 4 a.m., a man allegedly struck a woman in the face in the Hull sector. Video of the incident subsequently circulated on social media.
The alleged victim was conscious when police arrived, the news release said, adding she was attended to by Outaouais paramedics and transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
