This Westboro restaurant famed for its banoffee pie is closing

Ottawa Citizen ·

The Westboro restaurant Brassica at 309 Richmond Rd. announced that it will close following its final dinner service on Aug. 22.

“We have had so much fun at this location for the past six years, and are grateful to have been a part of your milestones, family dinners, and weekend traditions,” said a post on the restaurant’s Instagram page .

“Who will make banoffee pie for me now?” a respondent commented, alluding to a signature dish at Brassica that this newspaper selected as one of Ottawa’s 25 iconic dishes.

Brassica was opened in early 2020 by the seasoned Ottawa chef-restaurateur Arup Jana . Previously, for 15 years, Jana had operated his well-regarded Holland Avenue restaurant Allium, best known for its small plates and banoffee pie, until that restaurant was destroyed by a fire in the spring of 2019 .

When Jana opened Brassica, he partnered with the Vittoria Trattoria group of eateries, which had its Vittoria in the Village location there. Although Jana left Brassica in May 2025, his business partner, which operates a Vittoria Trattoria on Riverside Drive, kept the restaurant open.

The group’s first Vittoria Trattoria location is on William Street in the ByWard Market, but it has been closed since an April 2019 fire . Work to rebuild this restaurant began in June 2025 .
