Kremlin: Putin conveyed Iran's position on resolving conflict to Trump
Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed Iran's vision for a possible resolution of the conflict to US President Donald Trump, with the agreement of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, TASS news agency quoted Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov as saying on Saturday.
Putin held a telephone conversation with Trump on Friday, focusing primarily on prospects for a settlement of the Ukraine crisis while also discussing the situation surrounding Iran and various aspects of bilateral relations, the Kremlin said in a statement.
Peskov said Putin had informed Pezeshkian during their meeting in Turkmenistan that he planned to speak with Trump.
After consulting with the Iranian president, Putin conveyed Tehran's proposals during Friday's phone call, Peskov said, without specifying the content of the proposals.
Putin and Pezeshkian met on Thursday on the sidelines of a leaders' summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Caspian Environmental Summit in Turkmenistan.
In their bilateral meeting, Putin said Russia was prepared to do everything in its power to help resolve the conflict through diplomacy, while Pezeshkian reaffirmed Tehran's willingness to pursue a negotiated settlement.
The latest diplomatic contacts come as Washington and Tehran continue to exchange proposals through intermediaries, with major differences remaining over the terms for ending the conflict and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Recent indirect talks that began on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly failed to reach a breakthrough.
