Israeli fire kills two young children in Gaza, medics say

Israeli air strikes and gunfire killed two young children and at least two other Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Monday, health officials in the territory said.

Medics and relatives said 10-year-old Amal Abu Khater was hit by a bullet in her back ‌while she was eating inside her family's tent in the enclave's southern city of Khan Younis.

The fire came from Israeli forces to the east, they added.

The Israeli military said it was not aware of any incident involving a 10-year-old girl.

A four-year-old boy and another Palestinian were killed in separate Israeli air strikes on a house in Bureij refugee camp and a road in Khan Younis, medics said.

Earlier on Monday, another Israeli air strike killed one person and wounded another at a tent in Deir Al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, medics said.

The Israeli military said that the strike in Deir Al-Balah targeted a Hamas militant, but did not specifically respond to questions about the other two reported attacks in Khan Younis and Bureij.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said three UN warehouses in Deir al-Balah were damaged in an air strike on an adjacent location.

All three sustained damage, one of them significantly.

"Civilians and civilian objects, including humanitarian facilities, must always be protected," the office said.

The Israeli military and the Shin Bet domestic security agency struck two mosques in the Gaza Strip on Monday, alleging that Hamas was using the sites to store weapons, according to a joint statement issued by the military and the agency.

The strikes were conducted in the Shati and Deir al-Balah areas in the strip, dismantling two "Hamas weapons storage facilities," containing dozens of Kalashnikov rifles and additional military equipment, the statement said.

It alleged that Hamas used these facilities inside the mosques to conceal and store weapons.

UN humanitarians said on Monday that partners reported deadly weekend airstrikes in Gaza and clashes in the West Bank claimed civilian lives.
