China sends relief to Guangxi after Typhoon Narra

Chinese disaster relief agencies on Sunday dispatched 20,000 relief items to the country's southwestern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to help communities hit by floods caused by Typhoon Narra.

The shipment – ordered by the Office of the National Commission for Disaster Reduction and Relief, the Ministry of Emergency Management and the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration – includes folding beds, summer quilts, towels, blankets, raincoats and rain boots.

At the same time, under a public‑private emergency coordination mechanism, the government teamed up with 10 foundations and social platforms – including the Tencent Foundation, the Beijing Bytedance Foundation, the Beijing Meituan Foundation and the China NGO Center for Disaster Risk Reduction (CNCDRR) – to deliver another 27,000 items such as bottled water, instant noodles, bread, buckets, sleeping mats and family emergency kits.

The relief is aimed at supporting evacuation, temporary shelter and aid for residents forced to move because of heavy rains and floods brought by the typhoon.

Narra, the 19th named storm of the 2026 Pacific season, has lashed parts of Guangxi since August 21, triggering rising water levels and flooding.

Local governments have carried out large‑scale evacuations, and no casualties have been reported so far.

The combined supplies are expected to cover basic needs for thousands of displaced people as the region continues to clear storm damage and restore normalcy.

Two other storms are churning in the region: Typhoon Saudel – the 18th – is strengthening over the western Pacific and could reach super typhoon strength, while Typhoon Gaenari, the 20th, formed on August 22 off Japan.

The rare "three typhoons simultaneously" setup has prompted the Chinese government to activate Level-IV emergency responses for Guangdong, Guangxi and Hainan.

Among the three, Narra poses the most immediate threat to southern China.
