'The Long March: A Road Without End' set for global release

A new documentary The Long March: A Road Without End , which recently premiered on major Chinese platforms, including China.org.cn and China Pictorial Publications, is set for international release with multilingual overseas versions rolling out successively.

To commemorate the 90th anniversary of victory in the Red Army’s Long March, the documentary invited two foreigners to serve as travelers and observers throughout the production process.

They were William Brown, an American professor at Xiamen University, and Romuald Bronchart, a young Belgian media professional.

Their journey follows the historic routes of the Long March, offering international audiences a fresh, firsthand perspective to explore the timeless contemporary value and global significance of the Long March spirit.

Structured across seven episodes, the documentary weaves its narrative around seven evocative core images: the river, the lamp, the bridge, the road, the mountain, the tree and the flower.

This unique framework builds a continuous narrative thread that connects the Long March’s revolutionary history directly to China’s present-day landscape.

As the two observers walk through the former battlefields, mountain villages, newly built bridges, high-speed construction sites and thriving rural communities along the original routes, the documentary reveals how the perseverance, solidarity and hope that defined the Long March continue to shape modern China.

The production adopts an approach to on-site exploration that pairs past accounts with contemporary reality, and aims to unlock the cross-cultural resonance of the Long March spirit, presenting this shared human legacy to global audiences beyond national and generational boundaries.

The upcoming multilingual editions are expected to extend its reach to international viewers looking to better understand the history and legacy of the Long March.
