Tunisia issues high heat alert amid heatwave
Tunisia's National Institute of Meteorology (INM) on Wednesday issued a high heat alert for all regions except the western province of Kasserine, warning of extreme temperatures and sirocco winds through Thursday.
The INM said temperatures are expected to remain particularly high, with localized thunderstorms and rainfall possible in some areas during the afternoon.
The institute warned that children, older people, those with chronic illnesses, people taking regular medication and those living alone are particularly vulnerable to extreme heat.
Residents were advised to drink water regularly throughout the day, even when not thirsty, and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak heat hours, particularly between noon and 4 p.m.
The INM also recommended protecting the head from direct sunlight and limiting strenuous physical activity while temperatures remain elevated.
