Animated comedy 'All Wishes Come True!' hits Hong Kong and Macao

The Chinese animated comedy All Wishes Come True! hit cinemas in Hong Kong and Macao on August 20, with a Cantonese-dubbed version also being released.

Rather than retelling the well-known legend of the Eight Immortals crossing the sea, All Wishes Come True! imagines what happened before they became legendary figures.

The story follows eight ordinary people who meet by chance and embark on an unexpected journey.

Through a series of challenges, they gradually discover their strengths and eventually become the Eight Immortals known to generations of Chinese people.

All Wishes Come True! opened in the Chinese mainland on July 18.

According to ticketing platform Maoyan, the film has grossed more than 1.6 billion yuan (around $250 million) at the box office so far.

The Hong Kong and Macao release marks the film's next step in bringing this modern take on a classic Chinese legend to Cantonese-speaking audiences.
