China urges vigilance against Japan's right-wing forces
China on Wednesday called on the international community to remain vigilant against dangerous moves by Japan's right-wing forces and to safeguard the victorious outcomes of World War II and the post-World War II international order.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks at a regular press briefing when asked to comment on recent remarks by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
Lavrov said Japan should fully and earnestly study the UN Charter, including Article 107 and other provisions under the "Enemy State Clauses." He also warned that attempts to break constitutional constraints, rewrite international law or evade historical responsibility would spark serious concern.
Lin said China agrees with Lavrov's relevant remarks and noted that the Enemy State Clauses are an important part of the UN Charter.
"This year marks the 80th anniversary of the opening of the Tokyo Trial.
Reaffirming the significance of the Enemy State Clauses and emphasizing their binding force are important for safeguarding the victorious outcomes of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, and for preventing the resurgence of militarism," he said.
The spokesperson accused Japan's current government of refusing to face up to its wartime crimes of aggression and seeking to abandon pacifism while attempting to break free from the constraints of Japan's Constitution and domestic and international legal frameworks.
"Such moves amount to an open challenge to the post-World War II international order," Lin said.
He added that all peace-loving countries should jointly resist and prevent the dangerous trend pushed by Japan's right-wing forces, safeguard the outcomes of victory in World War II and the post-war international order, and prevent historical tragedies from recurring.
