Typhoon Saudel makes landfall in Zhejiang on China's eastern coast

Typhoon Saudel, the 18th typhoon of 2026, made landfall at Yuhuan of Taizhou City, east China's Zhejiang Province, on Friday.

The typhoon made landfall at around 8:05 a.m. in the coastal area of Kanmen Subdistrict in Yuhuan of Taizhou, east China's Zhejiang Province, with maximum sustained winds of 35 meters per second near its center, equivalent to force 12.

Its minimum central pressure was 975 hectopascals, according to the latest information from the China Meteorological Administration.

Zhejiang and Fujian provinces are expected to bear the brunt of the heaviest rainfall brought by Typhoon Saudel, with torrential rain forecast in some areas.

Areas near and to the north of the landfall site are likely to experience the combined effects of strong winds, heavy rainfall and high tides, posing heightened risks of flooding and other weather-related hazards.

As Typhoon Saudel moves inland, its impacts are expected to extend over a broad area and persist for a prolonged period.

Heavy rainfall associated with the typhoon may affect nine provincial-level regions, including Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou and Yunnan.
