The Vidyaranyapura police are on the lookout for a six-member gang that allegedly barged into a spa and salon centre on Vidyaranyapura Main Road, assaulted and threatened its employees, and extorted money by threatening to implicate them in false cases.

According to a complaint filed by a 26-year-old employee of ‘Y Salon and Spa’, the group, comprising four women and two men, entered the establishment on October 3 and allegedly claimed to be associated with the media and an organisation. The group allegedly accused the employees of being involved in illegal activities and threatened to report them to the authorities. The group allegedly initially demanded ₹5 lakh and later insisted on smaller amounts.

Fearing legal action and consequences for their jobs and families, the employees allegedly arranged and handed over around ₹96,000 to the group. The complainant further alleged that the accused continued to demand another ₹50,000 and threatened them with further action if the money was not paid.

The incident reportedly took place on Saturday night. The complainant said the employees were frightened following the incident and subsequently approached the Vidyaranyapura police.

The police have begun an investigation and are attempting to identify and trace the six accused.
