Schools in Tamil Nadu will now have three periods of physical education and two periods of extra curricular and co-curricular activities in a week, said School Education Minister Rajmohan while releasing a revised time table in Chennai on Tuesday (September 13, 2026).
Speaking to media persons, he said, “Now, there will be compulsory three periods of physical education, and the other two periods designated for extra curricular activities could also be converted to physical education periods, thereby ensuring that students can play all five days a week.” Mr. Rajmohan thanked the Chief Minister for the decision.
The Minister was holding a review meeting with all the District Education Officers on curriculum, hygiene and facilities of the schools in the districts.
Responding to a question about results of special Teacher Eligibility Tests, Mr. Rajmohan said that there are more attempts for the teachers to take up the exam, and they are working on providing a good support system for the teachers to take up the exam.
