Vice-Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C), Eastern Naval Command, inaugurated a unique in-house Launch and Recovery System (LARS) Test Plinth at the Submarine Rescue Unit (East) in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday.
The newly established shore-based facility is designed to conduct comprehensive trials and essential maintenance operations for the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicle’s (DSRV) LARS.
According to an official release, this will significantly boost operational readiness and ensures the sustained upkeep of India’s critical submarine rescue capabilities along the Eastern Seaboard.
Naval officials highlighted that having an indigenous, shore-based testing infrastructure minimises downtime and streamlines the maintenance workflow for critical rescue assets, further reinforcing the Eastern Naval Command’s preparedness for deep-sea submarine rescue operations
