Former BJP leader and founder of the 'We The Leaders' movement on Friday hailed South African jurist and former United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem "Navi" Pillay on being selected for the Nobel Peace Prize.

From humble beginnings in Durban, Ms. Pillay, whose parents were of Tamil descent, and whose grandfather was brought to South Africa from India to work in sugar plantations, pursued a lifelong crusade against apartheid, gender discrimination, and systemic injustice, standing as a towering beacon of resilience and courage, Mr. Annamalai said.

"From serving as a fearless human rights lawyer and the first non-white woman judge of South Africa's High Court, to providing stellar leadership as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, she has shown unwavering dedication to the marginalised, making her a source of immense pride," he said.
