Government officials should act swiftly to resolve public grievances and ensure that welfare schemes reach all sections of society, Prasad Abbayya, Hubballi-Dharwad East MLA, said on Saturday (September 12).

Inaugurating the Praja Seva Andolana event for Hubballi urban taluk at Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Community Hall in Hubballi, Mr. Abbayya said the Praja Seva Department had been established to take government services to people’s doorsteps.

“Praja Seva is about ensuring that government facilities and benefits reach ordinary citizens. Officials should personally visit people’s homes, understand their problems and take prompt action,” he said.

He stressed that farmers, women, students and other sections should not be deprived of government schemes. Officials should discharge their duties honestly and without discrimination, he said.

Mr. Abbayya said the Constitution had ensured equal rights for citizens and made education and healthcare accessible to all. Efforts should be made to build an egalitarian society in which every citizen could live with dignity, he said.

He also highlighted Karnataka’s economic performance, saying the State had collected ₹1.58 lakh crore in GST and ranked second in the country. Karnataka’s per capita income was around ₹4.33 lakh, while the State accounted for about 43% of India’s IT exports, he said.

On housing, Mr. Abbayya said 15 lakh houses had been planned during the tenure of former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, of which more than 13 lakh had been constructed. The remaining 1.5 lakh houses would be taken up in the coming days, he said.

He called upon officials to cooperate in programmes aimed at improving the lives of poor, backward and marginalised communities and create greater awareness about the Praja Seva Department.

Various benefits were distributed to beneficiaries during the programme, while officials also received and heard public grievances.

Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Commissioner Rudresh Ghali, Additional Commissioner Vijayakumar, Hubballi Urban Tahsildar Mahesh Bhagavant Gaste and others were present.
