A long-pending proposal to construct a Ranga Mandira at Bondel in the city has taken a leap with Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) sending the financial bid of the proposed project for the approval of the Directorate of Municipal Administration earlier this month, according to Shivaraja S. Tangadagi, Minister for Kannada and Culture and Backward Classes Welfare.

Replying to an unstarred question by Y. Bharat Shetty, MLA for Mangaluru City North, in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday, the Minister said that the MCC sent the bid for the approval on August 6, 2026. Construction of the project will be taken up once the financial bid is approved. The MCC is the implementing agency of the project.

The government gave administrative approval for the ₹9.95 crore project and its blue print on February 27, 2025. The mandira is proposed to come up on 3.25 acre land.

As per the administrative approval, given to the proposal sent by the Deputy Commissioner, the building would come up on 24,850 sq. ft area. There will be seating arrangement for 670 persons. In addition, 150 cars, 50 two-wheelers and five buses can be parked on its premises.
