Solana’s Alpenglow Upgrade Set for October 21 With 150-Millisecond Finality Target

Solana is scheduled to activate its Alpenglow upgrade on October 21, replacing the TowerBFT consensus mechanism used since 2020.

The upgrade aims to make transactions irreversible in 150 milliseconds by changing how validators reach agreement.

The transition is planned for epoch 1064 and requires compatible Agave 4.3.0 software, while alternative validator clients will not support the initial migration.
