Widespread rain lashed Erode district on Monday (September 14, 2026) night, bringing relief to residents who had been experiencing hot and humid weather for the past few weeks. The rain brought down temperatures and provided respite from the sultry conditions.

The rain, which began in the evening, continued for an hour. The sudden downpour caught many motorists unawares, forcing them to take shelter at petrol stations, bus stops and other covered spaces across the city.

The district recorded 319.90 mm of rainfall. Gobichettipalayam recorded the highest rainfall of 38.20 mm, followed by Sathyamangalam (35.30 mm), Nambiyur (34 mm), Thalavadi (26.80 mm), Erode (23.40 mm), Chennimalai (22.60 mm), Varattupallam dam (21.60 mm), Kodiveri dam (21 mm), Elandakuttai Medu (19.20 mm), Modakkurichi (18 mm), Perundurai (17 mm) and Bhavani (15 mm).
