They may be young, but their imaginations know no bounds. Children are the greatest wonder on Earth, capable of absorbing vast amounts of knowledge and turning their experiences into remarkable creations, noted writer Vaishakhan said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Little Writers Meet, a two-day State-level gathering of young authors organised by the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare at Jawahar Balabhavan in Thrissur on Saturday.

Urging children to read widely and observe the world closely, Mr. Vaishakhan said imagination grows through observation and experience. “Reading is creation,” he said, stressing the importance of empathy and sensitivity in writing.

He also cautioned young writers against comparing themselves with others, pointing out that every child has a distinct personality and unique abilities.

The meet brings together 35 young writers from different districts of Keralam, all of whom have already written and published their own books.

A highlight of the inaugural session was the release of Andhakarathile Prakashabindu , the second book by visually impaired young writer Lakshmi Prasoon, a 2022 Ujjwala Balya Puraskar winner. Mr. Vaishakhan and writer Ashokan Charuvil jointly unveiled the book’s cover.

The two-day meet features sessions on storytelling, language, imagination, reading and writing, along with literary discussions and a children’s cultural evening. The writings and creative works produced by the participants during the camp will later be compiled and published as a book by the Council.
