Prakasam Collector assures government aid for child with rare condition

Prakasam District Collector P. Raja Babu has assured the parents of an 11-year-old boy suffering from a rare health condition that they would receive State government aid during the PGRS meeting at the Collectorate in Ongole on Monday.

The Collector was moved upon seeing the boy, who was confined to a wheelchair and unable to walk due to a rare condition causing abnormal muscle growth. He promised the family that he would bring the boy’s situation to the government’s attention and ensure that he received the support needed.

The boy, Vallepu Pavan Kishore, from Kopparam village in Santhamaguluru mandal of Prakasam district, visited the Collectorate seeking help from the government. His parents, Venkateswarlu and Vijayalakshmi, stated that he had contracted the rare condition when he was six years old.

The boy’s parents appealed to the Collector for assistance in restoring their son’s health, explaining that he was suffering from abnormal, excessive muscle growth that had left him unable to perform even basic daily tasks. They stated that they had already spent ₹7 lakh on his medical treatment.

Later, the Collector sought details regarding the boy’s health condition from DMHO Dr. T. Venkateswarlu, who informed that the condition was caused by a genetic defect and required an injection costing ₹26 crore for treatment.

Mr. Raja Babu instructed that arrangements be made for the boy to undergo physiotherapy at the Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. He said that necessary assistance would be provided by the government.
