The Special Court for Cases Under the POCSO Act in Nagapattinam on Tuesday sentenced a 46-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting and impregnating a 23-year-old intellectually challenged woman in 2023. The court imposed a fine of ₹6,000 on the convict, identified as Rajini alias Sundaramoorthy of Kootthur. It ordered compensation of ₹4 lakh to the victim.
According to police sources, the accused sexually assaulted the girl when she was alone at home. Based on a complaint, the police registered a case under Section 506(ii) of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 6 r/w 5(1), 5(j) and 5(ii) of the POCSO Act, 2012. The accused was subsequently arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
