In a collaborative effort between SOS Children’s Villages India and Dr. Agarwals Eye Hospital, residents of vulnerable families in Tambaram recently received free eye check-ups at a camp held in the city. About 150 children and 100 residents supported by SOS Children’s Villages India’s Family Strengthening Programme took part in the camp.

The collaboration aimed to provide preventive early diagnosis for eye diseases such as weak eyesight, colour blindness, and lazy eye. A team of doctors and clinical coordinators from Dr Agarwals Hospital provided consultations and preventive measures to the children and caregivers.

The programme in Chennai was initiated in 2009 with 75 families to uplift vulnerable families and help them reach self-reliance, which in turn, would help to avoid situations of child abandonment, a press release said.
