Asiad 2026: Dipanshi set for senior leap with perspective beyond wrestling

At 17, Dipanshi is about to walk onto the biggest stage of her fledgling wrestling career after nailing the Asian Games squad without competing in a single senior-level tournament, but the teenager's perspective on life goes well beyond the mat.

It was only after her selection for the continental event in March that she got a taste of senior-level competition at UWW Ranking Series in Budapest, where she finished 10th in July.

The three-time Asian championship gold medallist will represent India in the 50kg category without experience, a leap that could appear daunting for most young wrestlers but one that Dipanshi is embracing with curiosity rather than apprehension.

For her, wrestling is only one chapter of a much larger story.

"Wrestling is a part of our journey.

We have to face a lot of things in life.

It is very important to be a good person in life," Dipanshi told PTI in an interview ahead of the Asian Games.
