The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh’s Andhra Pradesh leg announced on Sunday that it will organise a ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ protest rally on October 6, seeking solutions to various problems faced by farmers in the State and appealing to farmers across political affiliations to join the protest.
The protest rally will begin at 11 a.m. from the Lorry Owners Association Hall near Benz Circle and proceed to Venue Convention Centre, where a public meeting will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
The organisation has demanded that procurement centres for all crops be opened before the harvest season and that the middlemen system be regulated. It also sought compensation for farmers who suffered losses due to delays in opening procurement centres.
The Kisan Sangh called for priority to be given to small irrigation projects that could be completed with lower expenditure, besides the revival of canals, tanks and major irrigation channels.
It demanded resolution of land acquisition issues and payment of compensation to affected farmers, besides a judicial inquiry into alleged illegal sand mining.
The organisation also sought crop loans, Annadata Sukhibhava assistance, crop insurance, input subsidies and disaster compensation for tenant farmers. It called for remunerative prices and solutions to the problems faced by aqua, oil palm and mango growers.
It demanded immediate release of pending crop insurance compensation and prompt assistance to farmers whose crops were damaged by natural calamities. It also sought district-wise special tribunals to resolve farmers’ grievances within a stipulated timeframe.
