With monsoon approaching, Collector Nishanth Krishna on Saturday chaired a consultative meeting here to outline comprehensive preventive measures against waterborne and vector-borne diseases.

Addressing key departmental officials, the Collector emphasised that drinking water supplied to the public must strictly adhere to safety and hygiene standards. Further, authorities had been directed to ensure that water pumping and reservoir stations consistently mix adequate chlorine into supplies.

“Continuous inspections of overhead tanks and storage reservoirs have been mandated, alongside the immediate deployment of dedicated vector control workers by local bodies to eliminate mosquito breeding sources,” Mr. Nishant Krishna said.

Officials identified long-term water stagnation zones and accumulated waste as primary targets for immediate clearance.

To combat the proliferation of dengue and malaria vectors, they called for community-backed efforts to clear discarded tires, plastic containers, and unused household items where rainwater tends to pool. Public health campaigns would run concurrently to educate residents on safe water practices such as consuming boiled water and maintaining clean household surroundings.

During the meeting, special emphasis was placed on institutional safety, with instructions given to schools, colleges, and Anganwadi centres to promptly report any fever symptoms among students to local primary health centres or medical officers. To handle potential seasonal surges, dedicated fever wards were being established across government hospitals and primary health centres.

Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Kumar, among others, was present during the meeting.
