Female teachers urged to lead fight for rights and better education

Female teachers have a crucial role in shaping responsible future citizens by imparting education, constitutional values and social awareness to children, speakers said at a State-level conference of women teachers organised by TSUTF here on Sunday.

Retired Telangana High Court Judge Justice G. Radharani said constitutional rights were not being fully implemented and urged teachers to understand women’s rights and educate students about them. She said socio-cultural barriers continued to restrict women despite technological progress and called for greater awareness of the Constitution and politics.

All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) national vice-president Mariam Dhawale criticised government policies, alleging that women faced increasing economic and social burdens. She highlighted the contribution of unpaid domestic labour to the economy and expressed concern over the impact of NEP 2020 on public education.

School Teachers Federation of India secretary N. Aruna Kumari called for a scientific approach to social norms, better infrastructure for girls and improved facilities for women teachers. Another leader Mothukuri Samyuktha urged women teachers to participate actively in teachers’ movements, recalling past struggles that secured better wages and service benefits.

The conference was attended by C. Kamala Kumari, TSUTF leaders Ch. Durga Bhavani, Chava Ravi and A. Venkat, among others.
