Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, celebrated National Sports Day at Ukku Stadium and Hockey Field on Friday (August 28, 2026), marking the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, according to a release here on Saturday (August 29).
Organised by the plant’s sports department, the event drew around 200 participants, including employees, family dependents, and local school children, underscoring the industrial township’s vibrant sporting culture.
The day’s itinerary featured a 2-kilometre walk for employees, 100-metre sprints, age-categorised athletics for children, and a mixed hockey penalty shootout. Senior citizens and dependents engaged in structured yoga and breathing exercise sessions, complemented by relay races that emphasised teamwork and physical endurance.
“The activities are designed to cultivate fitness as an essential daily habit while instilling discipline and camaraderie across generations,” a senior plant official noted.
The celebrations concluded with a formal prize distribution ceremony recognising podium finishers across all athletic categories. RINL has consistently prioritised community wellness, leveraging its robust infrastructure to host regular sporting initiatives for its workforce and township residents.
