The police have launched an investigation after a 59-year-old man was found murdered in his residence at Singanallur in Coimbatore. The deceased has been identified as Velusamy, a resident of Devendra Street near Aravan Temple.
The police said that Velusamy, who had been working as a document writer, lived alone after getting separated from his wife.
According to the police, Velusamy’s elder sister, who lives in the same locality, found him murdered inside the house around 9 p.m. on Tuesday (August 18, 2026). The woman went to the house and checked on him after finding the front door of the house remaining slightly open. She found Velusamy with multiple injuries, the police said.
Personnel from the Singanallur police station rushed to the spot after being alerted about the murder. Forensic experts were also brought to the scene to gather evidence. The police shifted the body, which appeared to be one-day-old, to the Government Medical College and ESI Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Special teams of the police questioned multiple suspects, including Velusamy’s relatives, in connection with the murder. The police are suspecting the involvement of a distant relative, who lives next to the house of the deceased. Further investigation is on.
This is the third murder to have been reported within the jurisdiction of the Coimbatore City Police this month. In the first case, a 25-year-old graduate was murdered by a group of youths within the limits of the Peelamedu station on August 3. In another incident, a 58-year-old woman was murdered by a minor boy aged 17 at her residence at Papanaickenpalayam within the jurisdiction of the Race Course station on August 12.
