Cheepurupalli MLA and former Minister Kimidi Kala Venkata Rao’s daughter-in-law, Kimidi Sandhya, is expected to be in the race for the Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad chairperson’s post, according to sources. Ms. Sandhya is the wife of TDP State Secretary Kimidi Mallik Naidu.

She is likely to contest either from Garividi or Gurla Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC), which is the first step to get the chairperson’s post in the election, which will be held indirectly among 27 ZPTC members. Backward classes population, including the Kapu community, is higher in Garividi and Gurla, which are part of the Cheepurupalli Assembly segment.

Mr. Kala Venkata Rao, who could not get a ministerial berth even after winning against YSRCP heavyweight Botcha Satyanarayana in the 2024 general election, is hopeful that the party high command would consider Ms. Sadhya for the ZP chairperson’s post. In fact, the party local leaders requested Mr. Mallik Naidu to contest for the ZP chairperson’s post, but it was reserved for BC women this time. It led the Kimidi family to opt for Ms. Sandhya for the coveted post. “Mr. Venkata Rao’s family has amicable relations with the Chandrababu Naidu family for the last four decades. The party high command may consider her name for the post. If the party high command gives a nod for the ZP chairperson post, Ms. Sandhya will contest for the ZPTC post,” said a confidant of Mr. Venkata Rao.
