TDP national president and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday insisted that the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) was distorting the facts contained in the Supreme Court order on the conduct of elections to the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and deflecting public attention from its indulgence in violence during the filing of nominations.

The YSRCP leaders had vitiated the whole process of elections through their criminal acts, and were crying foul about the prevailing situation, Mr. Naidu observed.

Addressing the MLAs, MPs, candidates and booth-level activists through a tele-conference, Mr. Naidu said the comments of the YSRCP leaders on the Supreme Court verdict reflected their litigant mindset and their wanton disregard for the collective responsibility to maintain law and order.

He noted that nothing better could be expected from the YSRCP with Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at its helm, and maintained that his desperation to disturb the elections was evident from the conspiracies being hatched by him.

Mr. Naidu said the YSRCP had criticised the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, saying that it had no faith and, on the other hand, went to the court asking that the elections be kept on hold till the SIR process was completed. This was the type of double standards the YSRCP was known for, Mr. Naidu said, while pointing out that it (YSRCP) obstructed the BC reservations by filing petitions in courts.

Mr. Naidu exhorted the MLAs, MPs and other leaders to take the elections seniourly, from the selection of candidates up to the results, as barely a week remained for campaigning. He instructed that every leader should reach out to the electorate from the grassroots-level and highlight what the coalition government had done for development and welfare of the masses.

The goal should be victory of the alliance candidates, Mr. Naidu exhorted, and told the leaders to be alert to the YSRCP’s politics of manipulation and violence.
