Five persons were arrested by Thimiri police near Arcot town in Ranipet for for the killing of a van driver due to previous enmity.

Police said the arrested persons were identified as Rahim Khan (33), Kishore (23), Satish Kumar (24), Suriya (21) and Dinesh (23). They are residents of Vellore town.

Initial inquiry revealed that the victim Mohammed Imran (36) and key suspect Rahim Khan are relatives and reside in Vellore town for many years. Imran was working as a van driver for a private school near Arcot town in Ranipet.

Police said that Imran and Rahim had a dispute in parking of their vehicles at a relative’s open land in the area. They also got into an argument and exchanged blows on the issue recently.

Along with his friends, Rahim stopped Imran, who was on his way to home, near Arcot town in Ranipet. The gang allegedly hit Imran with wooden logs. In the impact, Imran collapsed.

Police said passersby and motorists admitted him at Government Taluk Hospital in Arcot town before he was shifted to a private hospital where he succumbed to injuries a few days ago. A case was registered.

Police said special teams analysed CCTV footage on the route and found Rahim and his gang at the crime spot. Upon questioning by police, the gang confessed to the crime. Later, they were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is underway.
